This week, I got into the ocean and felt the cool

This week, I got into the ocean and felt the cool water embrace me. That feeling stayed with me all day.

The power and energy of water as it churns and breaks is endlessly captivating.

It has been proven to calm the nervous system and deepen a meditative state.

Are you a daily diver?

Do any of you dip yourself into the ocean or have a cold plunge routine?

It’s cold here most mornings but WOW what a feeling! I want to commit myself to at least one dunk a week! (I said it here so now I have to do it!)

I like to think this recent painting, “Ocean Portal,” captures some of that cold churning water magic. Can you feel it too?

Last Saturday was a memorable night in Carmel – Open Studios coincided with Meet the Makers alongside our regular ArtWalkers to fill the galleries in a special celebration of creativity in our quaint, historic village.

I was so happy to host the wonderful @folktalewinery once again. Big thanks to Melissa who curated an exceptional selection of wines that paired beautifully with the exhibit—your rave reviews say it all!

I walked through the gate that leads to a garden i

I walked through the gate that leads to a garden in all states of entropy and growth.

This is how it felt in 2022 when I promised myself the development of my painting was more important than the other things - business, arts advocacy, etc, etc.

It was the first time I had made that commitment to my practice in about a decade, and that shift in focus has been making all the difference.

I am seeing in my recent work a reflection of my inner world expressed in marks and colors. It is exciting to see an externalization of the way I see things that feels true and authentic.

Getting these four pieces from my “Garden Gate” series up on the wall next to other work from 2024 has been extremely satisfying to me as an artist seeking growth in my painting and connection.

To be able to see the road behind me connect to where I am currently, gives me encouragement.

In preparation for Open Studios this weekend, I hung a new show in the gallery!

I’m calling this collection, “Garden Gate,” which is the title of the square paintings included in the 2x2 grid. The language of marks and colors that I honed while making those pieces carries through all of these works and gives the whole gallery a cohesive feel.

This cohesion wasn’t something I planned - it wasn’t until all the work was on the walls that the throughlines really started to sing for me. Only after I looked at it all together did I start to see the story they all tell about life coming and going and all of the beauty in between.

I love the magic that happens when you give yourself the space to just try something and see if it will work.
