Local Artists To Create Live Paintings for Meals On Wheels
Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery Brings trAction Painting and Local Artists to
Live Event During 2014 Lafayette Art and Wine Festival
LAFAYETTE, CA (September 2, 2014) – Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery has joined forces with trAction Painting to bring live painting and demonstrations to the 2014 Lafayette Art & Wine Festival, a benefit for Meals on Wheels. Sponsored by Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery, artists Bill Carmel of trAction Painting, Walnut Creek artist Judy Chamberlin, and Bay Area multimedia artist Kaleo Ching will paint on the Fiesta Stage at one of the five biggest outdoor festivals in Contra Costa County. The finished paintings will be auctioned with the proceeds going to Meals on Wheels.
Using toy cars and other small wheeled vehicles, Carmel will demonstrate a scaled-down version of trAction Painting. In its full-blown form, the genre, created by writer and visual artist John A. Barry, uses bikes, skates, scooters, and walkers, whose wheels become “brushes” that create large canvases. “Bill’s and my goal is to develop a multidisciplinary curriculum based on the concepts of transformative thinking and repurposing, key components of trAction Painting,” says Barry.
Also painting live will be Judy Chamberlin, (judychamberlinart.com), a Walnut Creek artist who works in many styles, and Kaleo Ching, (kaleoching.com), a local multimedia artist who, with his wife, Elise, just published a third book, The Creative Art of Living, Dying, and Renewal, from Random House. Each will take the stage to create art in front of the audience with live music nearby.
“Live painting feeds off the energy and atmosphere of the crowd and music. I am thrilled to debut trAction Painting and these great local artists at the Lafayette Art & Wine festival”, says Perlmutter.
Jennifer Perlmutter, a professional artist since 1998, opened her gallery “to engage more with the public, empower other artists, and elevate the conversation about art”, she says. “I just love seeing how art affects people. And live painting at the Art & Wine Festival is a great way to see that in process.”
The live painting will occur for the duration of the Lafayette Art & Wine Festival, held September 20-21, featuring art, handmade crafts, foods from top local restaurants, and wines and microbrews.
