Animal Portraits and Cityscapes by Dan San Souci

Exhibit Dates: Nov. 6 – Dec. 5, 2015

Artist Reception: Friday Nov. 6, 6-8PM

LAFAYETTE, CA (October 2015) “WILD”, Animal Portraits and Cityscapes, opens in the Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery on November 6, with an artist’s reception from 6-8PM. Featuring an exhibition of Dan San Souci’s larger than life, finely detailed wild animal portraits and cityscapes. Exhibit runs through December 5, 2015.

Dan San Souci was born in San Francisco and grew up across the bay in Berkeley, CA. Working in watercolor and oils, his fondness for the city streets and the atmosphere of the Bay Area comes alive in his quiet cityscapes. Viewed side by side with the large wild animal portraits, an understanding of the artist himself is revealed.

Daniel San Souci is well-known for illustrating over 80 children’s books. The book that launched San Souci’s illustrations onto the literary stage in 1978 was The Legend of Scarface: A Blackfeet Indian Tale. The book won the New York Times Best Illustrated Book award and other honors, but most significantly, it marked the first of 12 books he illustrated that were written by his brother, Robert San Souci.
