Carmel and Big Sur Painters by Randy Tunnell
In 2021, Carmel photographer, Randy Tunnell came into my gallery on Dolores St. to introduce himself and tell me about his artist portrait project. He was planning to photograph artists in our natural habitats and exhibit the photographic portraits at the Carl Cherry Center for the Arts the following year. I was honored that he had asked and that fellow artist and gallery owner on the street Joaquin Turner had sent him down to see me. Being very new in town, Randy and I hadn’t met before then. Randy explained that he was meeting a lot of the artists for the first time.
After the success of his Carl Cherry show, he decided to create a book and include Big Sur painters in the book. The result is a wonderful chronicle of faces and studio shots of 100 artists! It’s hard cover, high quality edition of 500 books. A great feeling to be included with legacy painters. Several receptions and book signings will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
