Full Cup
Small works are never my “go to” in the studio. If I need to warm up or simply show up to my work, I prefer painting large to get my body moving. Prepping large canvases is exhilarating! And yet, whenever I’m in need of a pivot in my work, one of the tools I use to get there is working small. Another is to work on paper. The process is non-precious and slower. Pausing with smaller pieces of collage, feels more like building a puzzle. This gives me time to process my life. And starting over is not such a big deal if things don’t go in the direction I want them to. This series is called Full Cup. Each painting holds layers of collage beneath a crude drawing of a cup. The paintings remind me to begin with a full cup and care for my own needs before taking on anything else. I’ve completed 9 so far. A white floater frame sets off the details of collage. $200 each, on exhibit in Carmel.
