Collage!

It’s such a freeing, fun process of storytelling with scraps.

Some of the bits of paper and found materials that were incorporated in these pieces had been sitting in my collage bins for quite a while, and their stories had been evolving over time as each book page aged and each binding loosened.

I’ve come to love this kind of scrap: thread and paper, all in one piece. Those thirsty, aged pages with tea stains—each one calls for a closer look. I have several collages around my home, and they encourage me to slow down and really see.

These were a big hit last weekend at the Art Walk - If you’d like to come take a closer look, I’d love to meet you at the gallery!

Join me this Saturday for a special Holiday Art Walk featuring live music with Anne Sibley!

This will be a special event featuring live music by my incredibly talented friend, Anne Sibley, who will be performing her original songs on acoustic guitar.
To amp up the holiday spirit, I will also be serving hot apple cider and cookies, with a craft station where you’ll be invited to create your own holiday cards.
Swing by between 4 and 7pm to enjoy the festivities and be inspired by original artworks.
There will be plenty of small works available, perfect for the gift-giving season, and 10% of proceeds from artworks sold between now and the end of the year will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.

I tried to resist it.

The bark, the way the light hits the trunks, the tall, skinny trunks, and the Dr. Seuss-like treetops.

I see a lot of landscape paintings where I live, and honestly, I never intended to represent the landscape in my work, let alone paint another cypress tree scene. But there’s something about these elements that has a grip on me I can’t shake.

It’s the abstraction of these elements that’s driving me now. The process has been the most fun I’ve ever had in the studio, and I’m going to keep going until there’s nothing more to say.

Bring on the light! Lately, I’ve been thinking

Bring on the light!

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how I can more intentionally use my work as a way to magnify and multiply LIGHT in the world – and these paintings capture what I mean when I say that.

To me, these pieces shine with the light of a clear conscience, a positive attitude, a warm welcome. They were inspired by the garden gate in my yard, and though they are abstract, they capture the shine I feel when I’m at home on a quiet morning and realize just how beautiful this world can be.

As a way of helping to spread more of that shine, I am hosting a virtual Studio Sale & Benefit through my website and donating a portion of the proceeds to Habitat for Humanity.
