The Latest: “It Was All a Dream”
It Was All a Dream, now on view in my gallery in Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA, is an abstract impressionistic painting that came to life through many weeks of adding and removing layers. The joy of peeling away acrylic skin and paper from the surface was so satisfying that I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to finish it! Curious to see the outcome of exploring the surface, I persisted.
Here is a video showing some of the surface texture that resulted from all this excavation:
I consider myself a process artist, happily playing with abstract shapes and intuitive mark-making. But more often than not, this coastal life—landscapes of forest and ocean—shows up in my work. Even the feeling of these places has a vibration that is incredibly fun to capture in the studio. The last four years in Carmel-by-the-Sea have seeped into my art, not to mention the rich history of artists in the area. The art and craft of making work here are truly inspiring.
